Here is some info from Fender:
1972 was a magical year for the Telecaster guitar. With several new designs, the Telecaster guitar was available with more options than ever before. The '72 Tele Thinline features a warmer and rounder, semi-hollow ash body, "U"-shape maple neck, Bullet truss rod, '70s vintage hardtail strings-through Strat bridge, three-bolt neckplate, and two Fender "Wide Range" humbucking pickups. The Thinline Tele not only has a sound all its own, but it's also lighter.
