Thoroughbred breeding farm looking for a Farm Assistant.
Physical labor required, including fence repair, stall cleaning, and general horse care. Farm carpentry skills and landscaping experience (including zero-turn mower, weed eater, and chainsaw) preferred. Candidate should expect to work in all weather conditions and may be expected to help on multiple properties around Northeastern Maryland.
The candidate will be working with youngstock, mares, and Thoroughbred racehorses. Confidence around horses is a major requirement. Horseman's skills such as leading, grooming, and cleaning stalls are preferred. Training provided if needed.
Candidate should be organized, proactive, and willing to grow and learn as a horseman. They may learn to recognize basic horse ailments(i.e. colic, abscess, etc.) and treat injuries and illnesses as they arise. They will work closely with the Farm Manager to maintain thorough records of breeding and racing stock, communicate effectively with employees and contractors, and maintain herd health.
Salary: $20-$22/hour
