Authentic Ridgways "Stoke on Trent" ceramic plate - $50 (Wilmington)

This is a gorgeous antique brown transfer earthenware plate made in Stoke-on-Trent, England by Ridgways Pottery c. 1879-1890, in their "DADO" pattern that was influenced by Japanese art, it features a bird flying over a lake with mountains in the background, cherries on branches and cherry blossoms on a branch. The backside is stamped under the glaze in brown, DADO - and the company's mark, the bow and arrows in the quiver with RIDGWAYS written on the side - Stoke On Trent. In excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs or stains. Wear is consistent with age and use, there is light overall crazing. Ridgways was an earthenware manufacturer at the Bedford Works, Shelton, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The Bedford Works, Shelton, was founded in 1866 by Edward John Ridgway. From 1873 the partners were his sons John and Edward Ackroyd Ridgway and Joseph Sparks. From 1879 the business traded as Ridgways, England was added to the logo in 1891
