Chennai is a large commercial and industrial centre, and is known for its cultural heritage and temple architecture. Chennai is the automobile capital of India, with around forty percent of the automobile industry having a base there and with a major portion of the nation's vehicles being produced there. Chennai is also referred to as the Detroit of South Asia. It is a major manufacturing centre. Chennai has also become a major center for outsourced IT and financial services from the Western world.

The volunteers will be teaching the slum kids in the non-formal school, will do house visits and meet slum people, giving information and raising awareness about health, education and hygiene. The volunteers can also take the children out in the city e.g. for picnics, providing exposure visits and city walks.

Marine turtle protection project on the west coast of Karnataka

Kundapur is a town situated on the west coast of Karnataka near the beach, and very close to the Western Ghats (a mountain ridge). The Western Ghats is India's prime zone for bio-diversity, known for its number of animal and plant species in this region. A Marine Turtle protection project has been started here in co-operation with the Forest Department of the State of Karnataka. Over a 60-kilometer stretch of beach, surveys have been conducted and protection of the turtle nests has taken place until the hatching of the eggs. In 2005, more than 500 baby turtles reached the ocean safely thanks to the effort of international volunteers. The workcamps will also focus on spreading awareness to the general public and to the schools about the importance of turtles in the bio-diversity.

Southern Delaware Therapeutic & Recreational Horseback Riding, Inc. (SDTRHR) is a 501�3, nonprofit NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association) affiliated center located in Eastern Sussex County. Presently, we are the only NARHA-affiliated center in Kent & Sussex County.
Our NARHA certified therapeutic riding instructors and trained volunteers have provided planned sessions in equine-assisted therapy to children and adults with special needs since 1988.

The Domestic Violence Advocacy Program is a service of CHILD, Inc., which provides support to victims of domestic violence. CHILD, Inc. is a non-profit organization, based in New Castle County that works on behalf of abused, neglected, and dependent children, and victims of domestic violence. For both victims and perpetrators, CHILD, Inc. offers resources including support groups and counseling.

Volunteers of the Domestic Violence Advocacy Program work in the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington providing support to victims of domestic violence who are petitioning for Protection from Abuse orders. The English Language Institute (ELI) of the University of Delaware is an intensive English language school that brings adults from all over the world to Newark, DE, to study English. We have students from Colombia, Korea, Thailand, Brazil, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Japan, China, Taiwan, and other countries. The ELI Host Family Program seeks to connect these students with American families and individuals in order to give them the opportunity to experience our culture and practice their English with native speakers. This international volunteer project aims to improve the quality of life of Peruan children, teenagers and women. The project works in rural areas and rural communities, developing a set of strategies and actions to reduce the indexes of exclusion and to help in the solution of family problems such as violence against children and lack of education. It is a program that works on many levels from theoretical to practical activities. One of the places where this program works is the orphanage URPI at the City of Ayacucho, Peru.
In the frame of the project a group of international volunteers is invited again to participate in activities with children and Peruan families.
Volunteers will work every day with around 80 children of Ayacucho.

This may be a little early but I was told to ask now because of the situation I am in. I'm looking to see if anyone can help with getting christmas presents for my three children. I'm about to have a major stomach surgery about middle october. My husband and I have always needed my income to help meet the bills. I'm not able to work until after my surgery because of the pain and nausea I'm having. I'm being told that I'm to expect to be out of work after the surgery for at least four weeks so that just doesn't give me any way of helping to make any money for christmas. Generally we get by fairly well but this has really hurt us financially. We have cut out all but the nessesities we must have. Our children are 7, 9, and 11. Providing care, social and educational activities for orphans in SOS Children's Village Viet Tri

Volunteer project:
The SOS Children's Village is situated in the centre of Viet Tri City, the capital of Phu Tho Province. The first children moved into SOS Children's Village Viet Tri in 1999. There are now about 168 orphans living in 15 families under the care of the village mothers and staff. The orphans come from 5 different provinces in the north of Vietnam, and are at the ages between 1 and 18.

Volunteers will help planting vegetable inside the village, cleaning the area, organizing games and social activities for children, teaching English to the children and encouraging them to learn better. Volunteers will also join the families to get closer to the children�s life and try to build up wider horizon for the children.

Location: About 100 km north from Hanoi Capital.

friday at 7am a single father of 4 put a shot gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger... luckily he was not successful and the chair he was sitting on broke and the bullet went thru his neck and out his ear... yesterday he got off life support and he is doing good, the bad thing is that he still remebers everything and is very emmotional... he have 4 kids 3 girls all under the ager of 5 and just had his first son 6 weeks ago, the mother is a druggy and wants nothing to do with the kids so he has been raising them alone, the morning he did this he hadnt had but 2 hours of sleep the night before went to work and didnt have his tags so they told him he couldnt come back till he got new ones then he went and paid his rent and when he got back home the mother of his children was there waiting for him i guess they had seen easch other the night before and there was alot of conflit she said she was taking the kids away from him and with eveythign going on and she always threatens him knowing thats the only thing she has to contro; him by i guess he just couldnt take it so he shot his self.... our family is trying to raise money to pay his bills coming up because he cant come home to nothing thats the last thing he needs on top of everyhting his own mother said " how could he try to kill himself knowing he owes me $800 for his truck" i dont know how she could be thinking of money at a time like this but we want to pay off his truck atleast before she has a chance to confront him because he couldnt deal with that with everyhting thats going on .... so pls if you could send $1 even $.50 we would be so grateful and if you can afford to send any money we totally understand, if you could just say a prayer and re post this in a different city and state on craigs list to help us get our messege out that would be great thank you so much for all your concerns

Forte International Exchange Association (FIEA)is seeking candidates for the position of local representative, who will help coordinate between host families, foreign exchange student and our national organization, which is located out of Washington DC. We are a State Department-approved international exchange association. We provide educational and cultural exchange programs for students, host families, and schools.

The position works well for individuals who are working full-time but have a little extra time on weekends or evening and want to have an impact on the life of a foreign exchange student. The volunteer project is intended to support a local orphanage in the district of Kalahandi, a tribal dominated area and is aiming at providing more facilities and a better accommodation and shelter to the local children. International Volunteers will help with the painting and building of toilets and bathrooms, playground items and other facilities. The group should also be ready to take care of the children and organise creative and entertainment activities with the children of the orphanage.
Location: Muniguda is a small village, 40 km from Rayagada, the capital of Rayagada district, in Orissa State.
Muniguda is accessible by train and bus from Bhubaneshwar, Vishakapatnam, Kolkata (Calcutta), Delhi, Chennai (Madras) and Bangalore. The nearest international and domestic airport is Kolkata Calcutta).
Although the state of Orissa is famous for its beautiful beaches, immense natural beauty and historic attractions, it is still one of the most underdeveloped states in India. More than half of its population lives under the poverty line and the illiteracy rate is alarming.

Environmental and coastline cleanup activities on Reykjanes peninsula

The town of Reykjanesb�r and the communities surrounding it, will receive international volunteers again this year; there we will be performing different tasks related to the environment and the outdoors public areas in the towns and also within the premises of the former NATO base located in the Reykjanes peninsula, which was closed on 8 September 2006; the former military base is being turned into a dynamic knowledge and academic community.
We will work in different sites all around the area and our tasks will be varied including cleaning up the public spaces within the former base, collecting and hand-picking sea-waste at the shores and coastline outside, helping with gardening tasks, maintaining tree-beds; clearing up former barbwire fences and the area around the fences and in general works making the area a more friendly one.
Some of the working sites are located in different towns (Gar�ur, Grindav�k, Hafnir, Keflav�k, Njar�v�k & Sandger�i) and communities in the area as this camp is part of a bigger scale project run in cooperation with several parties in the region; therefore the jobs performed and the sites will mostly depend on the advance of the work at the different locations.

Leisure time: Visits to geothermal active areas and power plants in the area, hikes and excursion will be organised for the volunteers during their free time.
