The Wash House is a restored early 19th century log cabin in Sharpsburg, Maryland. It originally built as a wash house (hence the name) in Keedysville, Maryland. The owner wanted it torn down. We obliged him, moved it log by log to Sharpsburg, and rebuilt it using the original materials. The half-story upstairs, which is reached by the original steep corner stairway now serves as the bedroom. We have built a shed extension on the rear to house the kitchen and bathroom. The Wash House is positioned as an out building (along with a barn, chicken house, and corn crib) behind Clipp’s Mill, another of our Rustic Retreats. Over time, we plan to recreate the type of kitchen garden and small farm yard that a typical Sharpsburg house would have had a century ago.
The Wash House is an ideal relaxed, romantic get-away for a couple. It is close enough to Antietam Battlefield that a house across the street has cannon ball damage. Sharpsburg is close to South Mountain and the Potomac River in beautiful rolling countryside that can be explored by car, by bicycle, or on foot.

But, don't think you need to give up comfort for green living -- this house is built to the highest standards and has everything you can want for a great week with the family or a group of friends. It has 6 bedrooms (one with two sets of bunk beds), and five bathrooms (including a fabulous master bath with huge walk-in shower). Each bathroom is beautifully tiled -- and wait until you see the special touches in the kid's bath. You can relax in the living room and watch the 50 inch plasma TV and premium cable. Or try the rec room and work out on the elliptical trainer or fire up the computer with high speed Internet and wireless access, or have the whole family compete with the WII. There are four other TVs (an HD tv and DVD player is in the kids' rooms, so the adults won't need to watch Sponge Bob every night), and books, games and puzzles galore to keep you occupied if the weather doesn't cooperate. The kitchen has everything you need with Energy Star appliances all around, including an induction cooktop (heats twice as fast as standard cooktops), a double oven, and a huge microwave (for when you're too tired to start cooking for real). It also has a washer and dryer (front loading and energy efficient of course).
Best of all, the house has a large swimming pool that's all yours. When the ocean is too far and the sand is too hot, you can stay home and just lounge pool-side and pop in for a cold drink whenever you're ready. Deep enough to dive in and long enough to get in some laps -- you won't find a nicer pool in downtown. When you're ready to leave the house, you'll find you are centrally located in downtown Rehoboth -- it's an easy block and a half walk to Rehoboth Avenue in one direction and Silver Lake (and a kid's playground in the other direction. The beach and boardwalk are only a few blocks more so you can walk or drive over whenever you're ready. It's a quiet area and perfect for riding bikes, strolling, you name it.
So, if you're looking for week at the beach -- to stay with a group of friends, or for a family reunion or whatever YOU want to do with your time here -- just let me know and block out your time. Don't delay -- this house will fill up early and you don't want to miss out. Book directly and you'll miss the big rental office fees. What Does the House Offer?
Situated on Delaware’s southernmost island beach, just steps from the ocean, this house boasts three master suites, a bedroom with two sets of bunks, a bedroom with a set of twins, a den with a queen-size sleeper sofa, and a den with two (single) chair futons.
Included are a computer with High Speed internet access (great for a rainy day)-WI-FI, home theater system, 2 refrigerators, 2 bikes, 42 inch LCD, 5 TVs with DVD library and DVD players Luxury appointments include natural hardwood floors, a home theater system, a wonderful open-concept kitchen with two refrigerators and two ovens, 5 TVs with DVD players, and a wet bar in the second-level den near the pool.
Description of the Area and Activities:
The guarded beach is about 100 yards away from the house and there is off street parking for 6 cars. And if you need it, we supply parking passes for on street parking. There is also access to a large state park beach right up the road with plenty of parking. The park has lifeguard, showers, restrooms, snack bar, and umbrella rentals and the beach was replenished in the Fall of 2005 so it is very wide.
Fenwick’s beach is guarded, quiet and not at all crowed as you need to have a resident pass to park which restricts the number of beach goers. We supply 2 Wonder Wheel Beach Caddies that holds Full 48 qt. Cooler and up to 4 chairs, plus sturdy mesh bag storing tons of gear.
This house is appropriate for these kinds of groups.
The perfect house for family, groups of golfers, reunions, wedding parties, showers, 'crafty ladies' gatherings, scrapbook weekends, small business or religious retreats, or just for a quiet vacation. You could lease this house for a weekend, week or a month, and enjoy every minute of the comfortable and beautiful surroundings provided in the furnishings, appointments and neighborhood.
Things To Do In The Area:
The town Fenwick – Called the Quiet Resort - spans about 14 blocks and the restaurants, stores and activities are an easy walk from the house. The town hall has a good playground for children, a basketball half court, and a shuffle board court and a picnic area. A few of our favorite restaurants include Nantucket’s and House of Welsh.
You can take a short walk to the pristine beach for swimming and surf fishing, wander for miles in the adjacent Delaware Seashore Park. There are numerous golf courses, bike paths, three boardwalks, and superb dining in 2 states.
Ocean and bay water sports - charter boat fishing, wind surfing. Local water sports: swimming, crabbing, clamming, boating, kayaking, jet skiing, sailing, sport fishing, beach combing, surfing, shelling, windsurfing.
Day Trip about a half hour from Fenwick, Rehoboth Beach: The town is much larger than Bethany and boasts many shopping and dining options. You can also go antiquing. There is also fabulous sales tax free outlet shopping at 140 Outlet stores. Lewes: Smaller than Rehoboth but a good day trip...very quaint.
