This is the top course for preparation to take the USPTO Patent bar. The course is given by the Practicing Law Institute, and typically costs $2,795 ($1,845 with a student discount), including a copy of the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure (MPEP) and a set of 36 audio CDs keyed to a 50-hour course, with additional material that covers several weeks of study. (see http://www.pli.edu/patentcenter/patentbarreview/pricing.asp for a price comparison)

This is an excellent set of lectures and course materials, and I personally know of two people (myself included) who passed the MPEP Exam on the first try after taking this course. Do not depend on your (JD) Intellectual Property coursework to prepare you for the MPEP! Do not depend on your experience as a legal intern, or as an independent inventor, or the fact that your daddy owns the law firm! On the other hand, even a BS/Chem (such as myself) can pass the MPEP with PLI providing all of the legal knowledge needed to prosecute patents before the USPTO.

Bottom line: The best way to raise your chances of passing the Patent Bar is to take this course. If your time is worth more than a 1-2 dollars per hour, you are wasting a lot of money if you are trying to prepare without a course, and PLI has the best course available.
